I don't normally like many soundtracks. But when I watched A Single Man, the Tom Ford movie, I knew immediately that I would have to get the soundtrack.
Abel Korzeniowski is probably one of the best composers of this time. I just find his style to extremely honest and seductive.
Having had a peak on his website, it doesn't surprise me that he graduated from the Cracow Music Academy. There must be something about Cracow, or Poland, that makes for extremely good musicians. He graduated in cello and composition as well. I was recently speaking to a friend who is still trying to get into the University of the Arts in Mannheim. I mean, she has been trying since 2000. Since we both graduated from school. I think it is great that she is so determined, but she is also stubborn in that she is not willing to consider any other place of study. Or take another course. I find the whole process so disheartening. To be accepted onto a short course at Folkwang, I had to endure this torture of listening exams (and I have the worst hearing ever, I am far from having an absolute pitch. I spent years just trying to get a good relative pitch, but to actually stand there, and identify notes is just a bit over the top.
But to play like that, to be able to compose something like that. Wow.
