I am so stuck!
As my last days in Italy are approaching (for the time being), I am stuck in my little town! Today I was supposed to have lunch with a parents from my school, but I had to cancel, because I can't leave my street!
It might sound funny, but it certainly isn't.
Let me explain this wonderful example of Italian organization. A few days ago I nipped out to the shop, to pick up some water or something. I took the car to the supermarket just outside my little village, and was wondering why the streets were so busy. But before you knew it I had forgotten about it. Until I was on my way back and a sign informed me that the street was interrupted in 200m. I was confident though and went on, made the turn around and there is was: blocked! I turned right and parked on this tiny street a short walk down the hill to my house. With bottles of water and other stuff!
It turned out to be a bike race! A BIKE RACE! I have little patience for those arrogant bastards on the roads here as it is, but this was just pushing it.
Hey, but it was over and done with, and there was no need to get too upset (apart from the fact that I parked on a road that has NO PARKING on Friday mornings from 7 to 9 am, so I had to get up, walk over to my car half-asleep and re-park!).
Today started off strange. Actually, yesterday got me worried already. Walking down the main road, I noticed the popular AVVISO signs by the bus stop. I decided to check the note, because it might be something important.... and it was. No bus was to pass through here today, Domenica 20 Giugnio... Fine then, I thought, who knows what is going on.
Until now I am still not sure what is really going on. The parking lot off my road is closed and there is a stage, and stands are being set up. And on the main road there is ONE stand selling something. I assume it might be another Giro, a bike race. With Italy being busy watching the world cup right now, it is dead! But I am not able to leave my street! This is so ridiculous!
So I continue to be stuck here, but tomorrow I will leave, no matter what, to put all my belongings into temporary storage in Pisa! And on Wednesday I will leave Italy, no matter what! No bikes are going to stop me!
